Education DesignShop
This was Jesse's idea and project; I was co-conspirator and right hand.
We tried to take the Hackathon genre and apply it in an Educational Policy context, where both prototyping and deliverables are often non-tangible, and always more abstract than at your typical hackaton.
Topics tackled:
- Curriculum Re-Design for STE(A)M - Integrating Arts into STEM Education
- Motivational Structures In & Out of the Classroom
- Resources and Support Structures for Retention & Diversity
We had a great time. Among other things, I got to video-tape and edit a whole bunch of interesting interviews (as an inspiration for participants).
Most interesting aspect was we tried to force-pair teams to be truly cross-sectional: an teacher, an educational policy expert, an everyday Joe/Jill and a student (high school age). On average, we were surprised how well high schoolers worked with much older experts.
